I wonder if anyone ever thought about how the story of the little mermaid should have ended.

To refresh those who forgot this fairytale, here's a summary:

The little mermaid, is a mermaid. One fine day, she falls in love with a handsome human prince. But alas, as a mermaid, she cannot venture into the land.

So, she went to see the evil sea witch. Being evil, the sea witch made her drink this poisonous potion which grants her a pair of legs. However, at the same time, she lost her voice. Also, she will feel excruciating pain whenever she walks. The worst part is, if the prince happens to marry another person, the very next day, the little mermaid will die and turn to sea foam.

Sad huh?

But because of her love for him, she drank the potion willingly. When she met the prince, no matter how much she wanted to say she loved him, she couldn't.

And the prince, not knowing the feelings of the little mermaid, went on to marry a princess from the neighboring country.

Imagine how much the little mermaid has given up, how much pain she has suffered. Sometimes i really wonder if all this is worth it.

Anyway, the evil witch, being very very evil, gave her a chance to survive. She can return to being a mermaid, swimming freely in the ocean only if she kills the prince before the wedding.

Sadistic witch.

At midnight, when the prince was sound asleep, the little mermaid went to his chamber with a knife. But staring at his face, she couldn't bring herself to kill him.

So, for his happiness, she gave up her life.

As this is a fairytale, the ending was something along the line of "the little mermaid turns into an angel blah blah..."

But a large part of the story is still very much a tragic story.

Oh well.

Don't ask me why i had the sudden thought of this story. Just that, i really wonder if a story that already has an ending is worth thinking about/troubling over.
